The
most spectacular Skipper by a long way. It is called the Mirror in
France and those oval shapes could conceivably be beads of condensation
on a mirror. It has a characteristic bobbing flight. Coupled with the
very dark uppersides it is distinctive in flight. It is a central
European butterfly where I've found it in NW France, N Italy and
Slovakia. I've only ever found a couple of examples in any one place so
I assume it is of fairly low density even in its colonies.
