This is a large and distinctive blue. The male has lovely pale blue uppersides that gleam in sunlight and wide forewing borders. The undersides are a pale dove grey.

It flies across central and southern Europe. I only ever find it in the mountains where it is lives in discrete colonies and may be fairly common. The males like taking salt and both sexes are often found feeding at alpine flowers.
